Attack The Block

What I liked:
  • I liked the premis of the movie: a group of kid gang members have to save their block from aliens.
  • I liked the look of the aliens.  I think it left more to the imagination.
  • The acting was quite good for a group of kids, especially Moses.
  • There were many underlining layers to the film - a look at underpriviledge kids, gangs in the urban city, race relations, and politics.
  • They type of music used is not my cup of tea but I liked how they used it.
  • It appears to be a low budget film so they were wise in how they used their money by picking which scenes to use special effects in.  There were a few scenes where things happened behind closed doors (maybe partly to save money and/or partly to let your imaginiation run wild) but it didn't hinder the story at all.
  • It was nice to see that aliens attack outside of the US.
FYI: At some point, you will wonder to yourself, "Why are these aliens only attacking this group and not all of South London?" and you will get your answer by the end of the film, so just go along with it.

What I didn't like:
  • This block seemed to be home to hundreds of people yet you only see about twenty of them.  How did everyone know to stay inside or away from the block?
  • The cops rush to judgement but shouldn't someone do some investigating work, like maybe look at a dead alien for jumping to conclusions?
FYI: I think that this film could have a hard time finding a distributor in the US but only because of the language barrier.  The kids use a lot of British slang that most Americans don't know but it isn't hard to get the gist of what they are saying.

7/29/11 - So maybe I was wrong, they won't have a hard time finding a US distributor as the film opens in the US this weekend.
8/6/11 - ATB opens up in Cleveland this weekend.
