Amour

What I liked:

  • Fantastic acting by Jean-Louis Trintigant and Emmanuelle Riva.  Riva's Oscar nomination for Best Actress is rightfully deserved.
  • Isabelle Huppert is convincing as their concerned daughter.
  • I liked that they started towards the end, then go to the beginning of the story and play it through.
  • Great directing by Michael Haneke.
  • The subject matter is real and honest.
  • The scenes are painfully orchestrated to show the everyday tasks of caring for an elderly loved one.

What I didn't like:
  • The scenes are painfully orchestrated to show the everyday tasks of caring for an elderly loved one.
  • It's extremely depressing and sad.
  • While the film does show the unconditional love between Georges and Anne, your take away from the film is more about the complications of getting old and/or dying.

Grade: B+
