2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards

  • I loved the Mia Farrow joke.  Way to go Patton Oswalt.
  • Loving Laura Dern's strawberry blonde hair.
  • Best First Screenplay: Bob Nelson for Nebraska.
  • You should see Lake Bell's In a Word and JGL's Don Jon if you haven't.
  • Best Supporting Male: Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club.
  • This was a tough category.  Michael Fassbender was fantastic in 12 Years.  Will Forte was great in Nebraska.  And Keith Stanfield was amazing in Short Term 12.
  • Take away Jared's scarf and he totally looks like Jordan Catalano. #MSCL
  • Best First Feature: Fruitvale Station.
  • Nebraska is quirky and real.  You should check it out.
  • Best Screenplay: 12 Years a Slave.
  • You can skip Frances Ha.
  • Aubrey Plaza looks lovely.
  • JOHN CASSAVETES AWARD – (Best Feature made for under $500,000) : This is Martin Bonner
  • :( Phillip Seymour Hoffman.  Don't do drugs, kids!
  • I don't get all the hoopla around 20 Feet from Stardom.  It was a decent movie but nothing fantastic.
  • Best Supporting Female: Luptia Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave.  Happy Birthday!
  • Glad that June Squibb is getting nominations for her role in Nebraska.  Well deserved.
  • Fasso?  No.  It's Fassy.
  • Bruce Dern does not look impressed by Patton's jokes.
  • Best Documentary: 20 Feet from Stardom.
  • Best Director: Steve McQueen for 12 Years a Slave
  • Best Female Lead: Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine.
  • Ecstatic that Brie Larson was nominated for Short Term 12.  She was fabulous in a fabulous film.
  • Nautical humor!  Prius shot out!  Best introduction to a film yet!
  • Best Male Lead: Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club
  • Mud is a great film.  Check it out.
