The Lone Ranger

What I liked:

  • Armie Hammer played a good Attorney/Texas Ranger.
  • William Fichtner and Tom Wilkinson are great bad guys.
  • Helena Bonham Cater has a great leg.
  • It also stars Ruth Wilson, Barry Pepper and James Badge Dale.
  • It points out that the white man took what wasn't his from the Indians and the from land and how greed destroys all.

What I didn't like:
  • Society's tolerance of violence is very high if this is PG-13.  There are a lot of civilian deaths as well as "the bad guys".  And they just don't fall of cliffs into an abyss...they get shot, hearts ripped out, scalped, and beheaded by a beam.
  • Johnny Depp is playing the same guy he always plays.  It's like he's Capt. Jack Sparrow of the Wild Wild West.
  • Hammer isn't really acting like the Lone Ranger until the very end.
  • It's way too long.  At the very least, they could have cut the "museum" parts.
  • The end credits roll like this: Johnny Depp, THE LONE RANGER, Armie Hammer.  If Armie Hammer is the Lone Ranger, shouldn't he get top billing?  If Depp has to have top billing, shouldn't the movie be called Tonto?  Or something that combines the two characters?
  • I found it to be slow and not very entertaining.
