What I liked:
- The soundtrack was alright. Bonus points for playing Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlanticism.
- Dakota Johnson is a diamond in the rough. She has been taking a few small roles (like here and in The Social Network) and is working on her skills. She could be the next "It" girl.
- The overall message of the story is clearly geared towards the Tween generation. Anyone older then that will see right through all of the holes in this film.
What I didn't like:
- The acting was horrible.
- Alex Pettyfer must have made this before I Am Number Four because he was much better in that then this.
- Mark-Kate Olsen was laughable. Did she forget everything that she learned on Full House?
- Vanessa Hudgens can't act.
- Peter Krause phoned in his lines.
- Lisa Gay Hamilton's Jamaican accent was ridiculous.
- Neil Patrick Harris tried to play his HIMYM character, Barney, but a PG version who is also blind. It didn't translate well.
- The makeup/special effects to turn Pettyfer into a Beast were amateur.
- The story was juvenile at best. Kidnapping, murder, breaking and entering, and lying are not great examples for Tweens.
