What I liked:
- Quvenzhané Wallis was wonderful as Hushpuppy. Her performance was natural and innocent. It's hard to believe that she was only 5 years old when they filmed this.
- Dwight Henry had great chemistry with Wallis. They seemed to have a natural father/daughter relationship.
- The story was interesting, laced with metaphors, imagination, and a dose of reality.
- It makes you grateful for everything that you have.
- Beautiful score.
What I didn't like:
- Hushpuppy's surroundings are sad and depressing. It can be difficult to watch sometimes.
- Part of the story had holes in it. Some things needed to be explained more in order to make sense.
- It was kind of slow at times and had a hard time keeping my attention.
