Beginners

A lovely little movie that may make you wonder if you choose your life or if life chooses you...

What I liked:

  • Wonderful acting by Christopher Plumber, Ewan McGregor, and Mélanie Laurent.
  • A beautiful and heartbreaking story.
  • An interesting use of clips and images.
What I didn't like:
  • There was something about Goran Visnjic's character and/or acting that I didn't care for.
Grade: A-

  2. Overall a great movie. I had a few tie ups though. Maybe it is just me but it seemed a bit hard to follow at times. That status of the father was confusing, was he sick, was he well, was he in the hospital, was he at home, etc. I just felt it was very carefree for something that seemed to be quite a burden on the son. I also felt there were some parts that weren't addressed, for instance the art work he was drawing, I believe for an album cover? It seemed it was an under-developed portion of the story line or was I too tired to put it all together? Regardless, I thought the acting was great and it was a good movie overall. Oh, and I loved the dog!!
