The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

What I liked:
  • Watch The Social Network to see Rooney Mara as the girl next store.  Then watch this to see the transformation from that to total bad ass.  She was fantastic in this role.
  • The entire cast was top notch: Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, and Geraldine James.
  • Yorick van Wageningen was great but prefer him in this film.
  • Fascinating mystery shrouded in layers with twists and turns.
  • The score was rocking.  Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross know what they are doing.
  • Enya's "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)"
  • The opening credits are visually stunning.
  • It's Lost's Charles Widmore!

What I didn't like:
  • This is the English-language adaptation of the Swedish novel by Stieg Larsson.  I have not read the book but I am told that there are some major changes.  I'm all for leaving stuff out when a adapting a book into a movie but do not like it when they change things.
  • Animal lovers beware.  There are some graphic scenes involving animals.
  • It's over 2.5 hours long which I don't mind, however, Mara and Craig don't meet up until over an hour into the film and some of the scenes felt rushed.  I think I would have preferred a 3 hour movie with more well rounded scenes.
  • This is the second movie this year that Goran Visnjic has had weird hair.  This is the other one.

Disclaimer: There are some graphic scenes.  If you couldn't watch parts of Precious or Black Swan, you won't be able to watch parts of this movie.

Side note:  Can someone please explain the significance of the leather jacket at the end?
